Sunderland Royal Hospital is under significant pressure due to additional escalation wards being open. Two of our wards (E53 and F62) have not got any nursing teams assigned to them. As a consequence of this we are having to redeploy staff on a shift-by-shift basis, at very short notice, to support these wards. To reduce the need for this we are introducing an NHSP incentive to support these two wards.
Colleagues can also continue to pick up the NHSP Allocate on Arrival shifts on both our hospital sites, where an additional £50 incentive will be paid to support wards that require additional nurse staffing.
The new incentive of £250 is for all nursing staff (Registered Nurses and Health Care Assistants) working NHSP shifts on Ward E53 and Ward F62 between Thursday 28th July and Thursday 8th September. Colleagues working these shifts will be eligible for a £250 incentive payment for every 37.5 hours worked during this period up to the value of £750. This includes early, late, long day or night shifts.
The incentive payment is only open to Registered Nurses and Health Care Assistants who are registered with NHSP.
In order for NHSP to be able to calculate shifts that are eligible for the incentive, timesheets worked within the qualifying period must be authorised and released within the timeframe below (see payment schedule below for staff that meet the 37.5 hour target for the NHSP incentive).

These are temporary arrangements only and are only for a 6-week period and will be continually reviewed. We are also in the process of reviewing other incentives available to staff working NHSP shifts, alongside what is being offered by other Trusts across the region.
