The Heatwave Plan contains information about extra actions to take when temperatures are high or remain high for a period of time.

Action Cards

Between the 1st of June and 15th of September each year, there are a number of action cards for staff, wards and departments and the Trust to follow depending on the Met Office Heat-health level.

Level 1: Green (Preparedness)

This level is in operation between the 1st of June and 15th of September each year.

Level 2: Amber (Alert and Ready)

This level is triggered when the Met Office forecasts temperatures of 28 degrees C by day (or 15 degrees C by night) for at least three days, or there is a 60% chance of temperatures being high enough in the next three days to have significant effects on health.  Level 1 actions are continued in Level 2.

Level 3: Red (Action)

This level is triggered when trigger temperatures have been confirmed in any region in the UK.  Specific actions are required that are targeted at high-risk groups. Level 1 and Level 2 actions are continue in Level 3.

Level 4: National Emergency

This level is triggered when a heatwave is so severe or so prolonged that its effects extend outside health and social care or where health and social care systems are threatened. Level 1, 2 and 3 actions are continued in Level 4.
