Roster Notice

Staff will receive 6 weeks’ notice of their rosters which is in accordance with Lord Carters Rostering Good Practice.

There are Roster Timetables available for Roster Creators and for Ward Staff.

Requests

Full time staff will receive 5 requests per roster period.  For part time staff these will be pro-rated to hours worked as follows:

Up to                     7.5 hours             =              1 Request

Up to                     15 hours               =             2 Requests

Up to                     22.5 hours           =              3 Requests

Up to                     30 hours               =             4 Requests

Up to                     37.5 hours           =              5 Requests

1 request = 1 day!

If you would like the weekend off this would be 2 requests – Day off Saturday, Day Off Sunday.

Likewise if you would like 2 days off together, this is also 2 requests. I.e. Tuesday Day Off, Wednesday Day Off.

Core Shift Times and Rest Breaks

For patient and staff safety, the following breaks will be built into e-Rostering as per the Roster Guidelines:

Shift start and finish time Minimum unpaid break requirement (in minutes) Shift length(in hours) Shift Name (for e-roster)
07:30 – 16:00 30 8 Early - E
13:15 – 20:30 30 6.45 Late - L
07:30 – 20:30 2 x 30 12 Long day - LD
20:15 – 07:45 45 10.45 Night duty - ND

Please note shift start and end times vary slightly between wards

  • All shifts of more than 6 hours must include a 30 minute unpaid rest break
  • All shifts of 12 hours or more must include 2 x 30 minute unpaid rest breaks
  • Night duty shifts must include a 45 minute unpaid rest break
  • Staff cannot take breaks at the beginning or end of the shift
  • In accordance with the Working Time Regulations, staff cannot routinely choose to work during rest breaks in order to start the shift later or finish the shift earlier
  • Each employee and the person who is in charge of the shift are responsible for making sure that rest breaks are accommodated during working time. It is important that staff are able to take their rest breaks. If rest breaks are not taken when the opportunity has been provided, the opportunity for rest time is lost and cannot be retrospectively claimed as an overtime payment or time owing
