What we do

Our team delivers a dedicated waste service throughout Sunderland Royal to provide a service to all. The waste team deals with the collection and disposal of all hospital waste, clinical, household and confidential waste, ensuring segregation by using the national colour coded system.

Home collections of clinical waste and sharps from patients throughout the Tyne and Wear area, are also part of the team’s responsibility.

Who we are

Tthe team are part of CHoICE Facilities Services, who are a subsidiary company wholly owned by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. The team is dedicated to waste services only, focusing all of its attention on full compliance with the many waste regulations now in force. The waste team collect waste from all wards and departments and store at the central waste compound, ready for collection by specific specialist waste disposal companies.

The waste compound is located at the back of Sunderland Royal Hospital on A floor.
