What we do

We provide transport and taxi services to patients, public and staff involved in treatment and/or care provided by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. 

The Transport Department is responsible for providing three scheduled runs.

Run one delivers mail to:

  • GPs
  • Health and Medical Centre’s every other day (Monday, Wednesday and Friday)

Runs two and three deliver and collect mail, as well as pharmacy and other items to and from:

  • Sunderland Eye Infirmary 
  • Monkwearmouth Hospital Outpatient Department 
  • Children’s Centre 
  • Galleries Outpatient Department 
  • Washington PCT 
  • St Benedict’s Hospice 
  • Civic Centre every weekday 

Hospital Shuttle Bus timetable
A staff shuttle bus operates between South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital. The aim of this service is to make it as easy, efficient and stress free as possible for staff to travel between South Tyneside and Sunderland, and to relieve some of the pressure on our hospital car parks which can be extremely busy.  Please click here to see the current timetable. 

Out of Hours

  • The Transport Department provides an on call service for any out-of-hour’s requests, where items cannot be transferred in a normal taxi. Requests can be made via the switchboard.
