The Bureau is the emergency contact point for all urgent faults, problems and breakdowns. All routine repairs should be reported via the CHoICE Hard FM Helpdesk link. In an emergency between 08:00 - 16:30 Monday to Friday then extension 41934 can used but outside of these hours please contact Switchboard.
This department is responsible for setting professional standards and the management of Engineering Systems, including day to day repairs, planned preventative maintenance and minor new works. For example:
The Building Maintenance team is responsible for providing a professional advisory service and carrying out the day to day repairs and planned work programmes for the following areas of work to all trust aforementioned premises.
This includes building fabric, structure finishes, such as flooring coverings, decorations, upholstery, suspended ceilings, fixtures and fittings, decoration, false ceilings, windows/glazing repairs, roof work etc and also groundworks such as roads, footpaths, gardens, trees & plants, site boundaries,
The building dept. also covers miscellaneous items such as locks, signage, pest control, window cleaning, wall washing, snow and ice cleaning, drain cleaning etc.
The Control and Information department is responsible for Building Management Services (BMS), Energy and Environmental Services, CCTV, Staff Attack System, Access Control, Data and Networking Infrastructures and Asset Management covering the aforementioned premises.

The Clinical Engineering Department team (originally called Electro-biomedical Engineering (EBME)) has recently changed its name to bring it in line with national standards set out within the Healthcare Science Practitioners Profiles. The Department specialises in both Medical Engineering and Renal Technology providing a full medical device management support service for Sunderland Royal Hospital. This includes asset management, equipment servicing and repairs, across a wide range of specialised medical devices. The Department is Located both on A level next to the hospital's dining room and also within the Renal Dialysis Unit itself.
The MEL provides a delivery and collection service for a range of Medical devices. This service is provided to Wards and Departments within Sunderland Royal Hospital who have enrolled on the scheme. An emergency service can be provided to other areas on the condition that devices are available. An out of hours Service is available via the Portering Service.
The MEL also ensures that all staff complies with the requirements of the Medical Devices Training Policy. Assistance and guidance will be provided and support given to staff throughout this process. Management of training requirements will be overseen along with the completion of relevant documentation for the Trust.
