What we do

Our department is responsible for the management of an extensive range of medical devices and related services throughout Sunderland Royal Hospital that are used for the purpose of diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of patients.

We specialise in both Medical Engineering and Renal Technology providing a full medical device management support service for the hospital and associated outreach centres. This includes an evaluation service for proposed new purchases, a commissioning service for newly purchased medical devices, along with an asset management, equipment maintenance/ calibration and repair service across a wide range of specialised medical devices.

A disposal pathway is also provided for end of life medical equipment ensuring that WEEE regulations are adhered to thus providing full management of the life cycle of all medical devices. We also provide support for the hospital paging system and mobile radio network across the Sunderland Royal Hospital site.
