Thank you to everyone who has registered for the new staff car parking system.  We can confirm that the new payment system will start on 1 April 2023.  Please read the important detail below.

Pay monthly option

If you opted to pay monthly, this will come off your pay starting in April.  The charges are £26 a month for full-time staff.  For staff working 30 hours or less it is £20 a month.

Pay as you go option

If you opted to pay as you go, this also starts on 1 April 2023.  This means you must pay to park on site.  The daily staff rate is £2 per day.  The weekly staff rate is £7.

  • Daily rate – You can pay this using the existing ticket machines on site. You can also pay online via an app (see below).
  • Weekly rate – To pay the weekly rate, you will need to use the online app.

To pay online, search for PayByPhone in your app store.   Type in the location number 801351 and input your registered vehicle.

Please note – you must be registered for pay as you go to use this option.  If not, you must pay appropriately, otherwise you will get a Parking Charge Notice (PCN).  For any queries email: stsft.staffcarparkregistration@nhs.net

Free overnight parking

There are no charges for staff outside of 8am and 4pm (7 days per week).  If your shift runs past 8am, for whatever reason, you will not get a charge. Please note – this only applies if you are registered for night shift parking.  If you are not registered for night shift parking you will get a Parking Charge Notice (PCN).

Short stay staff bays

There will be some new ‘short stay’ bays on both main sites for staff who need to drop off or collect equipment.  You must have registered for staff car parking and pay to use these bays.  If you stay longer than 2 hours you will receive a Parking Charge Notice (PCN).  We will issue further comms to advise you of the exact location of these bays.

Community staff

The new rates will apply at Clarendon and Palmer Community Hospital.  There will be 2 hours of free parking for staff based on these sites.  You can take this in chunks throughout the day when you are coming and going from visits.

Please note – the 2 hours of free parking only applies if you registered your main base as Palmer or Clarendon.  Otherwise you will get a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) if you haven’t paid to park.

Premium and restricted parking

These spaces will remain. This includes the top floor spaces in the multi-storey car park at Sunderland Royal Hospital.  It also includes the spaces in the restricted car park at South Tyneside District Hospital.  There is a new standard charge of £52 per month for staff who opted for this.  Please note – premium parking is site specific.  You can only park in a premium or restricted bay on the site where you registered.  You can, however, park in other staff car parks on Trust sites.

We will monitor usage of these spaces from April to June.  This may allow us to open up more spaces for other staff if possible.  We will remove the ‘Director’ spaces outside of Harton Wing in April.

There will be no change for any staff who are Blue Badge holders.  You can still park for free in the dedicated bays.

Students who are on unpaid placement with STSFT will get free parking while they are here with us.  Students must still be registered and this will be co-ordinated with the Practice Placement Facilitator Team.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR ALL STAFF
